Week 8 Aftermath and Tim Tebow

Once again, I got a  lot wrong, but  that was a good thing when it came to the ‘Noles. They won BIG. I went 5-1, but that only kept me breaking even with The Evil One. I knew I should have picked Miami at home…

The biggest upsets were in the other conferences. Wisconsin loses to Michigan State at home on a Doug Flutie-like Hail Mary. That wasn’t completely unexpected. I mean, the Hail Mary was, but party was playing at home in a night game. This was one of those ‘electric atmosphere’ games. If they play again on a neutral field, I think Wisconsin wins.

The real shocker of the day was the Texas Tech Fightin’ Tubbervilles upsetting Oklahoma… in Norman. They haven’t lost at home since 2002 (when they lost to a surprisingly good TCU). They usually spank even the  good teams by at least two touchdowns. I watched the second half. Tech played extremely well, OU didn’t, but Tech still had to hold on at the end, which is what you’d expect to beat OU at home.

So for the first time this year my Top 5 has a shakeup:

#1 Alabama

#3 Stanford

#4 Boise State

#5 Clemson

K State will prove whether or not they belong in the Top 5 next week against OU. Oklahoma State’s waiting in the wings also, but no matter if they’re 11-0 going into their rivalry game, they’ll still have to beat OU, also.

The IMPORTANT game next week will still be FSU at home versus NC State… Of course.

But TODAY, there’s something going on interesting in the NFL. Tim Tebow will FINALLY get a chance to start. The media have been using him to provoke interest in their own segments and columns. All any of them has to do is throw out a ” Tim Tebow is not an NFL quarterback…” or “his release isn’t quick enough…” or “he’s not an accurate passer”… And they’ll get a deluge of fan interest.  Analysts like Merril Hoge (did he even play football?) and Trent Dilfer have gone out of their way to say that Tebow can’t play (when he hasn’t played), while defending someone like Kyle Orton who has proven he can’t play (and kind of a jerk). Trent Dilfer, of all people, should shut his mouth, since it took the (statistically) best defense in the history of the NFL to win a Super Bowl with him. He played in 11 games that year and threw 11 interceptions. He actually finished his career with FAR more interceptions than TDs. Averaged about 55% in accuracy. Was as mobile as a concrete pole in the pocket. And had a fumbling problem. Shut up, Trent Dilhole.

I felt the same way....

The media is sure to always start anything they say about Tebow with “I don’t have anything against the guy, he’s a great guy off the field, BUT”… They say that to appear objective, when most of them REALLY don’t like him. I’ve even heard some of the more outspoken ‘critics’ (which have amounted to nothing more than Tebow Haters), not so subtly question his intelligence… And then refer to some quarterback that doesn’t yet have a grasp of the English language (their native language) at age 30 or so as ‘smart’.

In any case, Tebow will get his shot today. The critics have bunkered down for the long haul, though and after disparaging Tebow’s QB skills for two years now, have taken preemptive action by declaring that Tebow “MUST beat the Dolphins”. If Denver wins, they were SUPPOSED to win, so Tebow doesn’t prove anything… So “he can’t play… but he must win or he PROVES he can’t play… and if he wins he can’t play, he just played a bad team”.

All I know is that as a Florida State fan, even when FSU had ‘bad teams’, I still thought they could upset anyone. They STILL had the talent even when Jeff Bowden was ruining highly recruited quality QBs. But when they played Tebow’s Gators, by his second year as a starter, I KNEW FSU had NO CHANCE of winning. NO. CHANCE. Tebow IS accurate. Don’t let the idiots in the media convince you otherwise. He set all kinds of passing records in high school and at Florida. He had nearly a 70% completion rate and has GREAT touch on the deep ball. I should know since I watched him throw what seemed like 30 Long Bombs against FSU. He can also run (and run over people like he did against the ‘Noles, also). He loves playing football. It’s important for him for the team to win. He won the Heisman with video game like numbers and comparable (if not better than) Cam Newton’s Heisman run who played in a vacuum of the SEC in a down year. And, outside of Chris Wienke (who was like 45 when he played for FSU) Tebow was the best LEADER I’ve ever seen come through the college level. On and off the field. As an FSU fan, there has never been an opposing QB that I was as glad to seem them graduate or leave early….

Tebow works and plays the game as hard as anyone. He is the ideal citizen off the field. And if he succeeds it will piss off all of the a-holes in the media. So, just for that and as an FSU fan…

Go Tebow!

Okay, my internal monologue on Tebow is over. Hopefully he’ll play better the first 3 quarters the next game.

  2. Crash! Landen Says:

Tebow wins! It’s off to the Super Bowl, now!

  3. Crash! Landen Says:

And Bunkley (former ‘Nole) gives Tebow a chest bump. The irony…

  4. Crash! Landen Says:

    Wow. Tie game Tebow.

  5. Crash! Landen Says:

Oh, thank GOD. They’re getting advice from that jerk Kyle Orton.

  6. Crash! Landen Says:

At least they can’t see it wasn’t interesting now.

  7. Crash! Landen Says:

    Going for two.

  8. Crash! Landen Says:

    Touchdown Tebow!

  9. Crash! Landen Says:

Receiver gave up on the play…

  10. Crash! Landen Says:

Ha! Now they’re comparing him to Doug Flutie, another player that was never given a fair shake (too short).

  11. Crash! Landen Says:

    Thirty three seconds…

  12. Crash! Landen Says:

    Great throw, better catch.

  13. Crash! Landen Says:

    Tight end wants to win.

  14. Crash! Landen Says:

    Dropped pass. Again.

  15. Crash! Landen Says:

Analysts are being postive now after being derisive the entire game.

  16. Crash! Landen Says:

    First down. Out of bounds.

  17. Crash! Landen Says:

    Hmmm… Didin’t know they missed 2 FGs earlier… And time’s running out.

  18. Crash! Landen Says:

First down! But time’s running out…

  19. Crash! Landen Says:

Okay, is this part of the script? Or is Miami doing the ‘Suck For Luck’ thing?

  20. Crash! Landen Says:

They figure that not overturning it won’t affect the outcome, I guess… Or that it’s too obvious to overturn it.

  21. Crash! Landen Says:

This is the way the NFL controls the games. It used to be the flags. Now they overturn things by telling you “Your eyes are wrong. You did not see what you think you saw.”

  22. Crash! Landen Says:

Uh oh. They’re going to reverse it aren’t they?

  23. Crash! Landen Says:

That looks like the first time they tried helping him today.

  24. Crash! Landen Says:

In the shotgun… nice scramble. And TD…. Not enough time to get another, though I think.

  25. Crash! Landen Says:

It’ll probably take the coach 7 or 8 weeks of Tebow under center to realize he should try him in the shotgun.

  26. Crash! Landen Says:

Okay, that was decent. Must be in the prevent,,,, In the shotgun.

  27. Crash! Landen Says:

    Hey! TWO first downs.

  28. Crash! Landen Says:

Is this the first time today he’s been in the shotgun?

  29. Crash! Landen Says:

Wow! He completed one! Analysts have no comment.

  30. Crash! Landen Says:

Awww… The announcers are trying to make Kyle Orton look all cuddly-feely…. BASH! them in the face. This is the same guy that was antagonistic towards Tebow and the fans… Double BASH! in the face.

  31. Crash! Landen Says:

Okay, I almost have to wonder if Tebow and the Broncos are ‘putting us on’. It looks like he’s never seen one of these oblong things that he’s throwing around. His throws today look like when Robocop had his targeting system off kilter and had to get help to reset it. He needs resetting. Not a good game plan by the coach, though. And the receivers still aren’t helping.

  32. Crash! Landen Says:

    It’s getting ugly in Miami.

  33. Crash! Landen Says:

He’s not get any help from his receivers, either… I’m doing this ‘Live’ during the Miami game if you’re reading.

  34. Crash! Landen Says:

I don’t get the feeling the announcers (or the entire presentation) are ‘pro-Tebow’ or even Tebow-Neutral. Even when the show cuts to the ads there’s a blurb that asks the question “How can the situation in Denver get fixed?” It’s not subtle.

  35. Crash! Landen Says:

    I think I jinxed Tim… Sorry Tim.
