More Celebrity Deaths… John Hughes and Vernon Forrest

Just heard that John Hughes died.

One of my favorites... Planes, Trains, & Automobiles with Steve Martin and John Candy. Kevin Bacon also made a fun cameo...

Hughes made a lot of people happy with his movies from Ferris Beuller’s Day Off, Some Kind Of Wonderful, Uncle Buck, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, The Breakfast Club, Vacation, the Great Outdoors, Weird Science… Dutch for God’s sake! He also was the catalyst for a lot of stars’ careers…

He was never really controversial or ‘edgy’, but his movies were always fun. They always seemed to have a few poignant moments hidden in each also.  My favorite scene from Ferris Beuller’s Day Off wasn’t even one of the big laughs. It was the scene where Ferris, Sloane and Cameron were in the museum with the schoolkids  and Cameron ends up staring into the expressionist painting “A Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte” by Georges Seurat (while Ferris and the lovely Sloane make out)….

Just happy memories from all of those. I can tell you what friend’s house I was at or what movie theater when I saw each of these for the first time… Thanks for the great memories and movies Mr. Hughes.

There were too many deaths last month including Vernon Forrest who was yet another pretty good boxer that died last month that I didn’t comment on when it happened… I had seen him fight before I think but he got his big shot against Sugar Shane Mosely on HBO (who had beaten in the amateurs…) and became a ‘name’ fighter… Here’s one of the better rounds (for Forrest anyway…) in that one.

And here’s the aftermath that someone posted of that fight…

Forrest ended up dominating the fight when Mosley was starting to get talked about as the best pound for pound guy… It think he handled him in the rematch also if I remember correctly. Forrest always seemed to be a good guy out of the ring (unlike a lot of boxers) and was friendly enough, which makes it harder to believe that  he was yet another fighter that was murdered…
